Online Journal Entry #17

Research. Aren't you just LOVING it?!! So many great things to find and read and we haven't even gotten to the WRITING yet!! ;) Remember, those source pages are due at the end of the hour THE DAY we get back to school, so if you don't have all three ready yet ... you'd best get busy researching!! For this week's blog, write a journal entry describing your research topic and the three aspects of it you are going to be detailing in your paper. Some of these topics may be familiar and some may be new to everyone, so give us a brief SUMMARY of the situation and what it is that makes it a historical landmark event.

And ... for those of you wanting another chance to boost your grade, I have a new blog created by a student looking for opinions on a rather controversial subject. Follow this link http://newagerevolution-newhippies.blogspot.com/2011/01/new-hippie-movement.html and post a comment expressing your opinion one way or another for up to 10 extra-credit points for Term 4. The more thought you put into it and the more thought-provoking your comments are, the higher your grade will be! PS It does not matter whether you agree or disagree with the post; your points are based on your participation in voicing your opinion either way! :)

Enjoy your bonus break and keep warm!!

“Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought.” ~Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

  2. Entry #1: The topic I have chosen to research is Brown V. Board of Education. This case made it so that segregation in schools was illegal. An African American man in Topeka, Kansas was upset about the fact that his daughter could not go to a good school. Even though he could afford to pay for her to be there. So he sued the Kansas Board of Education, the trial went on for a while. But, the jury decided the 'Separate but Equal' law was unconstitutional and schools became segregated.

  7. Entry #6: My topic of research was Gladiators in Ancient Rome. Gladiators were usually forced into their gladitorial life. They were taught how to fight and to fight to the death. They died to entertain the blood-thirsty crowds of Ancient Rome, who unfortunately had an unending thirst. The brutal, cruel society that was Ancient Rome is evident in the lives of gladiators. "We who are about to die, salute you!" Sadly, those were the last words of all who lost to the mercy of the crowd. For to be a gladiator, is to be one who walks with Death.

  10. Excellent point there, Author of Entry #8. I hadn't really thought about that as this is the only class where I only have one section. For my sophomores, each topic can be covered multiple times in different hours, so it doesn't really inhibit the anonymity as it would with this hour. Thanks!! :)
